Marvin Weaver returned from his 1-W service in Colorado in 1968, newly married to wife Miriam and looking towards what they hoped would be a bright future. Marvin leaned toward farming, but an opportunity arose and the Weavers decided to purchase Miriam’s parents’ road-side produce stand. It was a quaint little business in their front yard, set up between two Maple trees.

Forty-five years later, Shady Maple has become the largest smorgasbord in the country, feeding over one million people every year. It also includes a 44,000 sq. ft. gift shop and an independent grocery store, Shady Maple Farm Market.

Under the Maple Trees is the story of how Marvin and Miriam, along with their children and a host of dedicated employees, created one of the most visited destinations in Lancaster County. But even more than that, it’s the story of how a strong faith can combine with hard work, making anything possible.

Meet Marvin and Miriam at the Shady Maple Smorgasbord on September 12, 10am-1pm. Bring your copy of Under the Maple Trees or purchase one in-person and get it signed by the founders of Shady Maple!

Another book signing event will be held at the Farm Market on September 13, 10am-1pm.
