A Donut Room Employee performs a variety of yeast-raised doughnut preparation, frying, and finishing tasks. Main duties include proofing, frying, filling, powdering, decorating, and packing doughnuts, operating commercial proof boxes, a doughnut fryer, and filling both retail and wholesale orders

Job Function & Duties:

  • All employees are expected to uphold our company’s values, vision, and mission in their daily work and interactions, ensuring alignment with our core principles and goals.
  • Utilizes commercial bakery equipment e.g. proof boxes, doughnut fryer, utensils, measuring cups, etc. in dough proofing, frying, and finishing.
  •  Takes inventory and/or review daily production sheets to determine variety and quantity of products to prepare.
  • Performs a variety of doughnut preparation duties such as laying out the crullers, papering the trays, filling the fruit hoppers, gathering materials and supplies, etc.
  •  Performs a variety of finishing duties including filling, icing, powdering, sugaring, and glazing doughnuts.
  • Tray and pack finished products for retail and wholesale purposes.
  • Utilize wheeled carts to transport product within various areas of production including frozen storage.
  • Perform quality control measures such as changing the doughnut fryer oi; product dating/coding, rotation, material conservation (wiping off containers, etc.), and inspecting dough products during and after frying and making adjustments to processes as required.
  • Perform related doughnut frying and finishing duties e.g. stocking supplies/materials, routine cleaning/washing, transporting soiled utensils/small equipment to dish area, and organizing work area.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by management e.g. help finish pies, bake off.
  • Assist in waiting on wholesale customers during times where there is a shortage of available dock attendees.
  •  Follows established recipes to mix, make, fry and store crullers 

Job Skills:

  • Ability to learn by on-the-job training.
  • Knowledge of basic safety precautions in the use of commercial bakery equipment.
  • Capable of multitasking, being flexible, and having initiative in the work environment.
  • Dedicated to monitoring and maintaining quality control standards, especially product rotation and frying consistency.
  • Must be willing to learn multiple job positions/tasks within the bakery.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lb – 50% of the time
  • Job requires walking, bending, kneeling, and standing
  • Be able to move around quickly
  • Ability to stand on feet for the duration of the shift
  • Be able to work in freezer conditions 20% of the time
  • Pulling and pushing loaded racks/carts of product
  • Lifting, pulling, pushing – 50% of the time
