Job Summary: The Deli department clerk is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all Shady-Maple customers following the company’s values, vision, and mission. Clerks are expected to accurately weigh out meat and cheese products, as well as package and correctly label them for customers. Must be self-motivated and have the ability to solve practical problems.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Understand basic math (equivalents, fractions, etc.)
- Communicate well with customers with a cheerful and helpful disposition
- Clerks must be able to utilize commercial slicing machines for slicing deli meat and cheese
- Clerks must be able to accurately slice product upon customer’s request for desired thickness
- Prioritize tasks when necessary
- Accurate, thorough and neat
- Neat and clean appearance
- Attentive to detail
- Clerks must be punctual and on time to ensure that the department runs smoothly
- Obey all Slicer and Knife safety guidelines
- Food Handler-certified
- Breakdown, clean and reassemble slicers

Education and Experience: Prior retail experience is a plus but not a pre-requisite
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job
- Be able to constantly {6 hrs. or less) lift or carry 1-10 lbs.
- Be able to: Bend, twist, walk, push and pull
- Job requires, walking, bending kneeling, and standing
- Availability to stand on feet for the entire shift
- Be able to work in and out of refrigerators in cool conditions
- Be able to wait, possibly hours, before having to eat
