A bakery production manager oversees all aspects of the production process in a bakery, ensuring efficient operations, high-quality products, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards. The bakery production manager’s role is crucial in managing staff, resources, and production schedules to meet customer demand and maintain profitability.
Job Function & Duties:
- Receive and follow directions given by the bakery director
- Manager bakery production employees and operations including:
- Supervising and communicating with employees, giving appropriate praise and criticism, answering questions, directing in the resolution of problems and conflicts, helping them maintain positive attitudes, and making sure they are performing their job duties satisfactorily.
- Managing or delegating daily staffing e.g. finding replacements, calling in extra staff, etc.
- Assist the Operations and/or Human Resources Manager in performing employee training, development, and evaluations (as scheduled by the HR department).
- Oversee quality control issues e.g. dating, rotation, dough mixing and baking consistency, order status, product availability, sanitation, etc.
- Detects and ensures disposition of defective supplies, equipment, and/or other unusual conditions.
- Managing food inventory especially refrigerated/frozen storage.
- Ensuring that work and storage areas are orderly and clean.
- Striving to increase sales and gross profit margins, keep labor costs in balance, and maintain professional management practices and departmental presentation and appearance.
- Function as the liaison between the retail manager and the bakery operations employees including:
- Mediating product availability, excess, quality, and discounting.
- Communicating staffing needs as needed e.g. interdepartmental staff sharing.
- Assisting the retail manager in arbitrating customer complaints and/or suggestions.
- Perform other related bakery operations management duties and tasks including:
- Oversee the generation and distribution of production sheets and other lists and/or records.
- Managing large or special orders
- Attending food shows to stay current on “cutting edge” ideas, products, equipment, processes, procedures, etc.
- Capable of filling in as needed to cover labor shortages in the shifts (see #5 below).
- Ability to perform the numerous duties of the bakery production job positions.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:
- At least one year combined experience performing the essential job functions of the bakery production job positions
- Meet or exceed the essential job functions of this job description on or before the introductory period expires (three months)
- Be able to lift and/or carry objects light and occasional medium weight as defined by the United States Department of Labor
- Must be able to push carts/pull hand jacks skids though the warehouse to the floor
- Must be able to stand on feet for the duration of shift
- Active job which requires walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching,
