The Smorgasbord general manager plays a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of the restaurant’s operations and ensuring its overall success.
Job Function & Duties:
- Receive and follow directions given by the president of the Smorgasbord, owner, and executive leadership team.
- Leadership and team management:
- Interpret and enforce policies
- Mediate difficult leader/staff issues
- Complete manager reviews
- Conduct weekly manager meetings
- Marketing & sales:
- Maintain excellent public relations, as necessary
- Serve as a spokesperson for the organization
- Respond to and manage negative feedback
- Foster positive relationships with the local community
- Interact with customers
- Attend visitors’ bureau events and leader training events
- Maintain good relationship with local partners
- Maintain excellent public relations, as necessary
- Operational oversight:
- Spot check entire facility
- Report quality concerns and carry out a solution
- Check the grounds for cleanliness
- Conduct monthly safety observations
- Financial management:
- Approve invoices
- Oversee budgeting, planning, and cost control measures
- Monitor expenses, analyze financial reports, maximize profitability while maintaining quality standards
- Handling unexpected situations:
- Assist in times of staff shortages which may include seating guests, assisting with bus check-in, seating, and dismissing, stock clean plates, run bus carts, etc.
Job Skills:
- Ability to read, write, gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Ability to organize and coordinate tasks, schedules, procedures, and resources.
- Ability to lead, influence, motivate, and mentor subordinates
- Ability to function as a “team player” with peers and supervisors
- Capable of multi-tasking, being flexible, and having initiative in the work environment.
- Maintain quality control standards
- Learn multiple job positions/tasks withing bakery production
Requirements:
- Experience performing the essential job functions of a general manager
- Meet or exceed the essential job functions of this job description on or before the introductory period expires (three months)
- Be able to lift and/or carry objects light and occasional light weight as defined by the United States Department of Labor
- Must be able to stand on feet for extended time
- Must be able to perform other job duties which require walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching
